First United Methodist Church Donates School Supplies
School Supplies for USD 253 Children and Families
First United Methodist Church has partnered with community churches and organizations again this year to continue the school supply ministry for children and families of USD 253, Emporia Public Schools. With the amazing response of gratitude and appreciation from students, teachers, and parents from across the city of Emporia who received these supplies last year, the serve team of First United Methodist Church has recognized the importance of continuing this ministry and the value in working as a community with and for one another in this effort.
Several opportunities are available for churches and organizations across Emporia to assist in this endeavor including volunteering time, money, or “adopting a school.” In order for an individual or organization to adopt a school, they must donate the estimated amount for school supplies for that school based on enrollment projections. First United Methodist Church is purchasing all supplies for each school with the money collected and organizing the effort as a way to keep the process streamlined as well as collaborative.
In addition to monetary donations from First United Methodist Church, a variety of people and groups have donated money and adopted schools. The churches that have joined in this community effort so far include Grace United Methodist Church, who adopted Riverside Elementary, and First Congregational Church, who held a fundraiser and donated the proceeds to the general school supply effort. In addition, the Emporia Lions Club has adopted Logan Avenue Elementary. Individual members of First United Methodist church have continued to give to the school supply effort this year with the addition of monetary contributions from the United Methodist Women and the adoption of Maynard Elementary by the United Methodist Men. First United Methodist Church continues to receive donations from individuals even from outside of the city of Emporia who have heard about this outreach ministry and wish to be a part of its success! It is a blessing to be in ministry with such a wide range of people!
